Chapter 2: 9 Tips to become proficient in al-Qur’an.

Tips # 5: To accept al-Qur’an as a guidance and not otherwise.

Rasulullah SallAllahu ‘alaihi Wassalam said:

Al Quran is guaranteed shield pre authorised by Allah to do shafaa

(protection from torture after death and on day of judgement),

it is foolproof, accepted and credible;

whomever places it in front (as guidance) will lead him to jannah (heaven),

and whomever places it behind him (refusing its guidance) will drag him to hellfire (Jahannam).[1]

When studying al-Qur’an, it is important that we free our mind from any ideas that have been instilled in us. By that it means any doctrines, philosophies, thoughts, understandings and so on. This is because when we hold fast to any ideas, we will not be able to take any advantage from al-Qur’an as guidance, lights and so on. Instead, we will guide and give lights to al-Qur’an with what we believe in. In other words, we are actually guiding al-Qur’an.

Therefore, before studying al-Qur’an we must free our mind, be open and erase its egoistic. Only then we manage to gain from the role of al-Qur’an. In other words, we let al-Qur’an to guide us.

This guideline is important to the Muslims who, since long before have been colonised with many thoughts such as Secularised Islam, Liberalised Islam, Socialised Islam, Democratic Islam and many others. Our minds have been captured by all these thoughts before we study al-Qur’an and find the true holds. As such we must clear our mind from any mental clolonisation before we study al-Qur’an. Then we let al-Qur’an to colonise our mind and guide us. If al-Qur’an has been our guidance, as Rasullullah sallahu ‘alaihi wassalam said (above), it will guide us straight to heaven.
