Chapter 2: 9 Tips to become proficient in al-Qur’an. |

Tips # 2: Cleansing the misconception that learning al-Qur’an on our own will lead astray
Among the great successes achieved by the Satan is to make the Muslims deviates from studying al-Qur’an. It is achieved not by destroying al-Qur’an or hiding it but through its influence to the Muslim minds that studying al-Qur’an on their own will lead to astray.
The author would like to take this opportunity to introduce to the readers to one of the Satan strategies which is very dangerous. We are well aware that the objective of the Satan is to mislead the human being. This is not done straightforwardly. For Example, Satan will not come to a human and tells him: “Roslan, let me introduce myself. I am the Satan. I come to mislead you. Obey me.”
Instead, his strategy is to make what is actually bad to look good until we are deceived that it is a true guidance while in actuality it leads to you astray. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala reveals:
And Shaitan (Satan) made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do. [al-An‘aam 6:43]
As mentioned earlier, one of the Satan’s propaganda is to spread the misconception that studying al-Qur’an on our own will lead to astray. Through this belief, the Muslims deviate from studying al-Qur’an and even think that they are keeping themselves from going astray and that they have made a proper deed. Worst still by doing so, the Muslims think that they are on the true path. Allah Azza wa Jalla reveals:
And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious (Allah) (i.e. this Qur’an and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan – devil) to be a Qarin (companion) to him. And verily, thay (Satan / Devil) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright! [az-Zukhruf 43:36-37]
The truth is studying al-Qur’an on our own will not lead to astray because al-Qur’an itself is the guidance to the true path (of Allah), away from going astray. Have not Allah sent down al-Qur’an as guidance:
Alif-Lam-Mim. This is the Book (al-Qur’an), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much [abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden])… [al-Baqarah 2:1-2]
It is important for whoever studies al-Qur’an to do it sincerely; only to get true guidance, light that brightens the darkness, to help distinguish between the truth and falsehood, to lift up the soul, as the key to nobility and to know Allah. If we are sincere with these objectives, we will find that Allah guides us in studying al-Qur’an. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala explains:
As for those strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely, guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allah’s religion – Islamic Monotheism). And Verily, Allah is with the Muhsinun (good doers) [al-Ankabut 29:69]
Additionally, we must seek refuge with Allah from the Satan when we recite and studiy al-Qur’an. Allah says:
So when you recite al-Qur’an, seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one). [an-Nahl 16:98]
So long as we are sincerely studying al-Qur’an and seek refuge with Allah from the Satan, al-Qur’an will never ever lead us to astray.
