Chapter 1: Acquainting with al-Qur’an.

2. al-Qur’an is an illuminating light

O mankind! Verily, there has come to you a convincing proof from your Lord;

and We sent down to you a manifest light.

[an-Nisa’ 4:174]

The role of al-Qur’an as an illuminating light is to:

It is He Who sends down manifest ayat to His slave (Muhammad s.a.w)

that He may bring you out from darkness into light.

And verily, Allah is to you full of kindness, Most Merciful.

[al-Hadid 57:09]

Thus al-Qur’an is a guide that shows us the straight and safe path:

Indeed there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book (al-Qur’an).

Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His good pleasure to ways of peace,

and He brings them out of darkness by His will unto light

and guides them to the straight way.

[al-Maidah 5:15-16]

Darkness represents a disordered and mis-managed life with no clear goal. It is like a lost person in a dark room walking wildly searching for a way out. Al-Qur’an with its light would serve as a torch to help the person find his way out. Those who utilize al-Qur’an as a “torch” would have an orderly and a clearly oriented life.
