Let’s Get Acquainted With Al-Qur’an |

Chapter 4: 3 Prerequisites for the efficacy of al-Qur’an.
Amongst the priority of the Muslims today is to look for “miracles” in al-Qur’an to achieve certain objectives. Some would look for love spells; some would look for verses that function as sales boosters while others would look for beauty spells in al-Qur’an. Furthermore, everyone especially religious scholars have put forward various verses from al-Qur’an that perform these miracles. For example, there are health tips suggested by certain doctors, beauty tips recommended by certain ustazah, house protection tips proposed by some ustaz and so on.
Not wanting to be left out, the author would also like to introduce to the readers a few efficacious tips from al-Qur’an. They consist of three prerequisites that would nestled all tips that might have been heard of or practiced by, someone. These prerequisites are:
First Prerequisite: The whole al-Qur’an is efficacious.
The entire al-Qur’an is efficacious because it came from Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla. Therefore, it is unnecessary to search for certain verses that could accomplish certain objective. More importantly, it is wrong to specify, in favour, some verses above and over other verses. Doing so would mean that some part of al-Qur’an are beneficial and while the other are not.
Only one person has the right to do so, that is Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam. Only he has the right to specify certain verses for certain purposes, like specifying the al-Kursi Verse (al-Baqarah 2:255) for the purpose of warding off demons. Rasulullah has this right because Allah guided his specifications.
Second Prerequisite: The efficacy of al-Qur’an rests in its teachings.
The efficacy or the ‘power’ of al-Qur’an does not lie in the verses but instead rests in its teachings that are put into practice. Merely reciting, blowing and hanging the verses would not furnish any benefits if the teachings of the verses themselves are not practiced.
As an example, many people make use of verse 31 of ‘Ali Imran to nourish the love between a husband and a wife. The verse mentioned above is:
Say (O Muhammad Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” [‘Ali Imran 3:31]
The true teaching of the above verse is, if we love Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, then we have to transform the love by practicing the sunnah of Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam. This is because the word “me” refers to Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam. Therefore to nourish the love between a husband and a wife, practicing the Sunnah of Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam in their marriage life is what required. It would be foolish to merely blow the above verse on one another hoping for love to nourish, while at the same time the couples are not performing their responsibilities towards each other.
The second example is the famous ‘Verse of A Thousand Dinar’ (‘Ayat Seribu Dinar’) that is used as a sales booster in businesses. The verse reads:
“…And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things.” [al-Talaq 65:2-3]
Even if it was true that the above verse could be used to boost up sales, it is definitely not accomplished by having it framed and hanged in front of stores or restaurants. Instead, we have to practice the teachings of the verse. Amongst the important teachings in the verse is “And whosoever fears Allah…”.
A businessman who fears Allah would maintain his daily congregational prayers, would pay the business’ zakat, would be honest in dealing with employees, suppliers and customers, and would not be involved in prohibited or syubhat business. After putting in all these efforts, he would leave the outcomes to Allah. If he makes a profit, he would be grateful and improve his business. On the other hand, if he makes a loss, then he will be patient and put on more efforts to recover things. These are the criterii of a businessman as taught by the above verse. He would not only put hope on the verse, instead he would put effots to become the 1000 Dinar Businessman.
Third Prerequisite: Do not practice something that contradicts with al-Qur’an.
The benefit from the verses of al-Qur’an would be nullified if the person practices something that contradicts the teachings of the verses. For instance, there would be no benefit from blowing each other with verse 31 of ‘Ali Imran if both husband and wife are commiting adultery. Similarly, there would be no benefit in framing and hanging the Verse of A Thousand Dinar (Ayat 1000 Dinar) if the businessman does not provide good customer service and sell low quality goods. Hence one should act in accordance to the teachings of al-Qur’an. Not just the teachings of certain verses but the teachings of the entire al-Qur’an, to the best of our ability.
Explained above are the efficacious tips from al-Qur’an. They are definitely not something new or special. They are merely different expressions of what the author has mentioned in earlier chapters; we should know, analyse and and apply the teachings of al-Qur’an. That is the ultimate efficacious tip from al-Qur’an. Consequently let us discard the tips taught by certain personages and persist with tips taught by al-Qur’an itself.
