Let’s Get Acquainted With Al-Qur’an

Preface

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful.

If we analyse the inferior position of the Muslim ummah today we would discover that one of the contributing factors is the way we interact with al-Qur’an. The early Muslims (those at the time of the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi Wasallam until a few centuries after he passed away) were genuinely acquainted with al-Qur’an and adopted it as a guide for all their actions. They did not merely recite al-Qur’an, instead they were proficient in it. They practiced it and made it their ground for argument.

On the other hand, the Muslims today (majority of them) merely recite al-Qur’an. Sometimes we are easily satisfied with the recitation of few selected chapters of al-Qur’an. Today we merely know al-Qur’an, far off from adopting it as a guide in life.

I would like to invite readers to better know al-Qur’an and adopt it as a guide in life with the aid of this book. In order to accomplish the above objectives, I have organised the book into six main chapters:

  1. Acquainting with al-Qur’an, in which I will introduce al-Qur’an in the manner that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala Himself introduced it. In other words, lets know al-Qur’an through al-Qur’an itself.

  2. 9 Tips to become proficient in al-Qur’an. We should not merely recite al-Qur’an, instead we should understand and analyse its content. In this chapter, I will explain nine tips to help us better understand and analyse al-Qur’an.

  3. How to benefit from the narrations in al-Qur’an? Some part of al-Qur’an conveys about stories in the past. In this chapter, I will describe how we could benefit from these stories.

  4. 3 Prerequisites for the efficacy of al-Qur’an. Amongst the priority of the Muslims today is to look for “miracles” in al-Qur’an to achieve certain objectives. Some would look for love spells, some other would look for verses that function as sales boosters while others would look for beauty spells in al-Qur’an. In this chapter, I will clarify three perquisites to attain all the miracles in al-Qur’an.

  5. Current mis-interpretation of al-Qur’an. If on one hand the Muslims have neglected al-Qur’an as a guide in life, on the other hand some Muslims have mis-interpreted al-Qur’an to suit their agenda in life. I will list current mis-interpretation of al-Qur’an in this chapter.

  6. Contradictions in al-Qur’an? While knowing al-Qur’an we should also be familiar with criticisms against it. Amongst the most common criticism against al-Qur’an is that the Qur’anic verses contradict one another. Is this criticism genuine? Insya-Allah in this chapter I will provide the answer to this question.

Before we begin with chapter one, I would like to remind you that this book ia s a brief introduction to al-Qur’an, especially written to help us adopt al-Qur’an as a guide in our daily life. Therefore take this book as a beginning step to embark on your journey to get acquainted with al-Qur’an. Do not stop with just this book. Continue your journey with other authentic resources. I have listed a few recommended readings in the footnotes and also at the end of this book.  Let us pray that we would be able to attain the nobility that the early Muslims achieved as a result of their acquaintance with al-Qur’an.
